Mount Eden Summit is the crater of a volcano that erupted around 15,000 years ago, Maungawhau (the mountain of the whau tree). It's one of the most prominent volcano cones in Auckland. Near the central city, the summit provides views over the city, harbour and bays, the Auckland Harbour Bridge, Rangitoto Island and the Waitakere Ranges. You can also stand on the edge of the crater, which is largely filled in and grassy. It's a popular spot for sightseeing, and for walking and running.

The tree in this photo is one of several around the summit, and I love the numerous branches and the shape of the tree. It was a hazy pink sunset, and so I felt the photo needed more than just the city view. Putting the tree into the frame with the Sky Tower in the background gave a feeling of how nature and architecture mixes in the city. This photo was actually taken on the night I went to the P!nk concert in Auckland, so I thought the colour of the sky was quite fitting.
